New Xiaomi Smartphone Is on Its Way: Who Is This "Xiaomi Chiron" Guy?

A new Xiaomi gadget was spotted in the Beijing Subway database some time ago. We thought it was the highly anticipated Mi MIX 2. But after the Mi MIX sequel was unveiled last week, the information about Xiaomi Chiron, a mysterious Xiaomi smartphone, appeared again — his time we found it on GFXBench. We drew a comparison between the specs of Chiron and Mi MIX 2 and it turned out that these two smartphones were totally different.

GFXBench website shows that Xiaomi Chiron is equipped with a 5.6-inch FHD screen. It comes with an octa-core CPU with a clock speed of 2.4GHz and works in tandem with 6GB of RAM and Adreno 540. There is also 256GB of flash-memory. In the camera department the specs of Chiron and Mi MIX 2 depart as well. The mysterious smartphone has 12MP rear camera that can record 4K video and a 5MP front camera.

If Xiaomi did not come up with Mi MIX 2 with the same amount of RAM and ROM, we would think that it was the Chiron. But what threw us off was a 5.6-inch screen.

Xiaomi Chiron could be a continuation of the Mi Note line — Mi Note 3 Pro. The first Mi Note had two versions: the first version with the Snapdragon 801, the second one — with the Snapdragon 810 and the suffix Pro. Mi Note 2 was released without a Pro suffix, but it does not mean that Xiaomi plans to abandon that tradition.

The idea to launch Mi Note 3 with Snapdragon 660 first, and then catch up with Mi Note 3 Pro and Snapdragon 835 called Xiaomi Chiron would be a smart as those who wanted to have specs like in Mi6 but a bigger smartphone could get Mi Note 3 Pro with the same Snapdragon 835 processor, which Mi Note 3 does not have.
