Lei Jun Strives to Top 100 Million Smartphone Sales in 2018
In a letter to all Xiaomi employees, Lei Jun wrote that the company posted great earnings in the second quarter of 2017. Overall 23.16 million smartphones were shipped around the world during that period, which was 70% more than what the company had closed the previous quarter with. This was a quarterly sales record for Xiaomi and created a serious basis for the future sales growth.
Xiaomi is once again embarking on a rapid growth path after two years of business reorganization. In his letter the Xiaomi leader stated that to date no other smartphone company had been able to regain market share it lost so quickly. He also pointed out a few problems that slowed down the smartphone sales for several months.
Xiaomi is now developing both online and offline retail channels. Xiaomi ranked first in smartphone sales in popular Chinese online stores such as JD, Tmall, and Suning and opened 123 brick-and-mortar stores in China.
Xiaomi also forged ahead in India, the largest desirable market for Xiaomi outside China. The company is the Indian number 2 smartphone brand, with 328% revenue in the first half of this year.
